Dear Laura,
I also would believe that the personage in 4Q246 is Jesus in terms of the cannonical approach as I am also Christian, but the author of the text wasn't Christian.

It seems like a Jewish interpretation on the suitable sacrifice. But I don't understand what you try to say in the second paragraph.

God chose Abel's meat over Cain's grain.

Cain saw his offering wasn't good enough so he offered Abel's flesh, out of love not jealousy, in an attempt to deliver a suitable sacrifice.

I read that somewhere and it's the only interpretation that's ever made sense, especially considering that people have been killing one another for god ever since.

Your blog was interesting.
I also want to understand the meaning of Daniel's vision and I found one site that also tells about Daniel's vision
It shows what's the representation of the 4 beast.:

I just read Segal's "Joseph's Bones". For me, Segal's main theme wasn't so much the fulfilment of promise but the struggle between God and His chosen people. Segal points to the fidelity displayed by the ancient Israelites to Joseph's remains as a yearning - that the God who has chosen them - YHWH - would be forgiving - just as Joseph was forgiving of his brothers. For me, Segal's most startling argument is that the Hexateuch - read without theological lenses - also offers a YHWH who had to learn how to relate to humankind and to be 'accountable' to this yearning by humans. Segal also points to the striking similarities between Joseph and Yeshua (Jesus). He posits that the story of Jesus presents a God who, having learnt, could finally relate to humankind with forgiveness and love.

Dear Van,
I'm glad you found interesting resources on Daniel from this blog.
Who are your aunt and uncle?
Is your uncle "Edgar"?
I know him who works in facilities.
I have taught just two winter semesters of biblical studies at Religion Department.

Thank you for your work on ancient commentaries on Daniel. I did not know when I referred someone to your blog from mine that you had taught at Wartburg. Waverly is sort of a home town for me. My mother grew up next to campus there, and my aunt and uncle work in facilities there.

Pax et bonum,
Van
